About Us

Keep up to date with the goings-on at Honiton Community College.

Good Afternoon.

At Innovate, we take our food safety responsibilities very seriously and are deeply concerned about the reports of horsemeat in minced beef products.

Following the statement issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Innovate have already requested and received written assurances from all our suppliers of meat and meat products.

They confirm that the sources of their meat are mainly from the UK using approved establishments under schemes such as Red Tractor.

In accordance with the FSA, all our suppliers are sending their meat for speciation/authenticity testing and we have instructed our food safety consultants, Hygiene Audit Systems, to monitor and update us on this process.

The time period for a test is usually 7 to 10 days but with the demand for testing at the moment this has increased to up to 21 days.

We are very confident that our foods will not be affected, however, given the fluid nature of the FSA investigation we will, of course, not make any assumptions until we receive satisfactory test results from our suppliers.

As a precautionary measure, we have quarantined all beef products until Hygiene Audit Systems are satisfied they meet the legal requirements.

Once all test results have been received I will update you accordingly.

If there is anything I can help you with or that you would like to know then please do email me.

Kind Regards

Paula Lee

Our F1 in schools team (Team Dynamica) raced today (26/2/13) in the regional finals held at the University of Exeter, winning their class overall. The team has worked hard over the last year to get to this point, raising sponsorship, learning to use state of the art CAD/CAM software, desigining and producing their own design of a scaled down “Bloodhound” class racing car. They have been judged on not only the speed and quality of the final design, but on their presentation skills, pit display and on the process they used to get themselves to this point.

The team members are:

Cameron Boland (Team Leader)

Nick Long (Design Engineer)

Ellis Lloyd-Holland (Manufacturing Engineer)

Lloyd Batten (Resources Manager)

They came in with a best time of 1.248 seconds over the 20 metre track, beating the time of some of the the F1 cars in the next class up. Cameron Boland, Team Leader, said “This has been a challenging and rewarding experience, we have learnt a lot about how engineering and businesses work  and we can’t wait to go to London for the Nationals.”  Team Dynamica now go on to the national finals in London, having won their “Bloodhound” class at these regionals.

Team Dynamica also won the “Sponsorship and Marketing” trophy for the event and would like to thank all their sponsors:

Goodridge, CME, Telesis, Fly Moore, RC Bearings, Every’s, Pro Serve, Consortium, wpswestward,

who have made competing in this event possible, through generous financial support and through giving of their time and expertise.

Well Done & Good Luck for the National competition.

Food Origin and Safety: Meat Products

In light of the national news reports regarding horse meat contamination in beef dishes, we wish to clarify the steps our catering operator

, Innovate Services, has taken, and continue to take, to confirm the full origin and safety of the meat products used within our school restaurant.

As a matter of priority, Innovate Services has been in contact with all food and ingredient suppliers. To date, all suppliers have confirmed that no horse meat has been traced within any of the products sold to Innovate.

Innovate Services have appointed Dr Lisa Ackerley Bsc (Hons) director of food hygiene & health and safety consultancy of Hygiene Audit Systems Ltd to manage this process, including independently report on the details of all ongoing investigations with our nominated suppliers.

This includes a secondary safety precaution of undertaking independent DNA testing of products within the food supply chain, which Innovate Services is conducting in partnership with its suppliers.

Innovate has also taken the further precaution of removing from the menu any processed meat products in the interim period.

Hygiene Audit systems and Dr Ackerley are a retained consultant of Innovate Services limited and provide ongoing auditing and process management to our compliance team. For further information visit: http://www.hygieneauditsystems.com/

Day two in Shashemene School and all is going well. We are all gradually getting used to being the centre of attention but it is still a hugely humbling experience for all of us.The reception we received at the school made us feel like royalty and staff and students alike were very keen to demonstrate their English and their dancing. Within minutes we had all been invited up to join the dancing and our efforts were well received. Jake Phillips was even given the honour of wearing a costume and Mr Taylor became very acquainted with a wooden pole!  We have now experienced two 'coffee ceremonies' and sampled plenty of local cuisine.

Yesterday the Sport's Leaders were able to share cultural experiences with the Shashemene students and today they distributed the Year 7 postcards which were met with a frenzy of excitement. The Shashemene pupils have lots of questions for us and many of these centre around football so Jake and Ebony Lacey are in their element!

Today we were fortunate enough to observe some lessons and immersed ourselves in the learning taking place. We are all very impressed with the students at the school and they are all very keen for us to see their exercise books. It was refreshing to see examples of teaching and learning similar to ours and to see how seriously Ethiopian pupils regard their education.

We are just off to play volley ball in an Ethiopia versus England match and the Sport's Leaders, Naomi, Tara, Ashleigh, Ebony and Jake are hoping to show off their skills and make Honiton proud! #dreamteam

Miss Carnell, Mr Taylor, Tara Drew, Naomi Curtis, Ashleigh Logan, Ebony Lacey and Jake Phillips.
