|
Welcome to Beliefs and Values. Honiton Community College seeks to implement the aims and objectives of the Education Reform Act 1988 and specially those of the New Agreed Syllabus. It will enable students to develop insights into areas of knowledge, belief and thought central to an understanding of the modern world. Through a study of philosophy, ethics and the world’s major religions, students will be equipped with a range of knowledge and skills which will help them to make sense of contemporary events.
The early stages of this course are here to reflect on aspects of human experience which give rise to fundamental questions about life. We explore, explain and consider what different religions believe about God and compare different world views.
Students also explore ethics and relationships, authority, science and religon as well as global issues such as peace, justice and equality.
This OCR GCSE emphasizes Philosophy and applied Ethics. It provides an opportunity for candidates to build upon the foundations laid down by following the Devon County Agreed Syllabus in Religious Education. It reflects the fact that the religious tradition of Great Britain is in the main Christian, whilst taking account the teaching and practices of other principal religions represented in Great Britain.
