Student Support
Helping students to enjoy learning and find success |
|
The Student Support Centre is in the ROSLA Block, above the Textiles room, next door to the Library.
We work with students who are referred to us by their Head of Learning. All our students have issues that get in the way of their learning. Our job is to help find out what these issues are and find ways of overcoming them.
Our aim is to help our students to enjoy their learning more and find success in their College life and beyond.
We work with students on an individual basis as well as in small groups. We run Parent Support Groups as well as groups to tackle anger management, social skills and self esteem.
We aim to provide a safe and consistent environment, in which we can build relationships with the students.
Our aim is to help our students to enjoy their learning more and find success in their College life and beyond
Some of the issues we cover include poor attendance (school refusal and truancy),behaviour problems, anger management issues, social skills, self esteem, drugs and alcohol.
We involve people from outside agencies to help in our work, including Educational Psychologists, Careers South West, Youth Offending Team, Exeter Drugs Project (Y Smart) Educational Welfare, Mental Health and the School Nurses.
We run a Behaviour Support Programme for students in danger of permanent exclusion, and we integrate students who have been excluded from other schools.
We liaise very closely with parents/carers and teachers, regularly updating them on student progress. When a student is referred to us we make contact with parents to consult on our plans and gain their agreement.
