Physical Education at Honiton aims to develop pupils’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of College. Through a range of experiences that PE offers, students learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations.

Key Stage 3

All students follow a comprehensive and well rounded curriculum comprising English, Mathematics, Humanities (including RE), Technology, Modern Languages, Creative Arts, PE, ICT, Science and Personal Development (Tutorial) and Citizenship.

Key Stage 4

Students have the choice of a range of courses leading to public examinations at GCSE and/or vocational qualifications in English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Creative Arts, Humanities, Modern Languages and Vocation areas.

In addition, students follow of course in Citizenship and Personal & Social Education, which also covers Careers and Health Education.

Fine Art - A Level

The college offers a wide range of AS and A2 subjects leading to a full A level accreditation. Vocational subjects of a one or two-year duration are offered to include Btec National and OCR.

    Physical Education - Key Stage 3

    All students receive two PE lessons per week. Students learn through five essential processes

    1. Making informed choices about healthy, active lifestyles. Students will learn to identify the types of activity that are best suited to them.
    2. Evaluating and improving. Students will learn to analyse performances and identify strengths and weaknesses.
    3. Developing physical and mental capacity. Students will develop determination to succeed.
    4. Making and applying decisions. Students will learn to select and use tactics and strategies.
    5. Developing skills in physical activity. Students will develop a range of skills that show precision, control and fluency.

    Unit 1: The Theory of Physical Education (5PE01) 40% of the total GCSE

    Section 1.1: Healthy, active lifestyles

    Section 1.2: Your healthy, active body

    Assessed through an externally set examination. 1 hour and 30 minutes. The total raw mark available is 80.

     

    Unit 2: Performance in Physical Education (5PE02) 60% of the total GCSE

    Section 2.1: Practical performance

    Section 2.2: Analysis of performance

    Assessed under controlled conditions, externally moderated. The total raw mark available is 50.
