Information for Parents

Introduction to Work Experience   Work Experience is an opportunity for students to experience the real world of work, and can often have a decisive influence on student's future employment, training and education choices.     Work Experience opportunities at Honiton Community College:   Students at Honiton Community College have a range of Work Experience opportunities available to them:

All Year 10 students take part in a week of Work Experience; the dates are 21 - 25 July 2014
Sixth Form students can take part in an optional week of Work Experience, in the Spring Term (24 - 28 February 2014)
Year 10 and 11 NVQ Link students attend extended placements one day a week throughout their course
Year 10/11/12/13 students on WASSP and ASDAN courses may also attend a period of extended work experience as part of their courses

Work Experience placement checks and procedures:   All placements are visited by the Devon Education Business Partnership and undergo a health and safety check, this ensures that the company or organisation has the correct insurance in place and that it is a safe and suitable place for the student to work in. All placements must be submitted on a College work experience form (available from Mrs Andrews). This must include a signed medical declaration, a parental consent signature and also a signed employer risk assessment. All forms must be returned to Mrs Andrews who will arrange for the necessary checks to be made. No placement may start without a completed work experience form, a satisfactory health and safety check and authorisation from Mrs Andrews that the placement may go ahead. Due to the administrative process this means applications for work experience must be returned to Mrs Andrews at least 2 months before a placement can begin – deadlines will be notified to students at the start of the application process.     Further Information   Students are expected to find and arrange their own placements and the help of their parents and carers in doing this is greatly appreciated. More information is available on the links below and within the other Careers and Work Experience webpages. We are always looking for new placements for our students and if any parents or carers can offer a placement to one of our students, or would like to know more about what is involved in providing a work experience placement then please contact me on the details below. If parents or carers have any further questions regarding work experience or need any help then please contact me on the details below:   Mrs S Andrews Work Experience Co-ordinator Tel: (01404) 42283 Ext 261 Email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
