About Us

Keep up to date with the goings-on at Honiton Community College.

I am very pleased to inform you that the owner of the Clarks

Shoe shop in Honiton has offered students and staff a very generous 20% discount.

An extract from their email to me is below:

“I would like to offer both pupils and staff at the College the opportunity to purchase Clarks shoes at a discounted rate.
My husband and I operate the Clarks Franchise shops in Honiton and Exmouth and have successfully implemented this scheme at Exmouth College and Upottery Primary School.
We were encouraged by the adoption of the new uniform policy introduced by the College a couple of years ago and would be delighted to offer a 20% discount on all full price school shoes from the Clarks range.
We would also offer staff members 20% discount from our full price adult ranges.
Previously the schools that have accepted our offer have added this information via a monthly newsletter or equivalent and we would ask for parents or pupils to show this as proof of attendance when purchasing shoes for school.

I assume the staff have an employee ID card which could be shown at the point of purchase.
This offer is exclusive to Honiton College staff and students and is only available at the Clarks Shop, 4/6 New St Honiton throughout 2013.

It is a small gesture to show our support for the continuing progress the College has made academically and to recognise how smart the student body look in their present uniform.”

Honiton Community College will be holding a Non Uniform Day on Friday 26th April following the recent Lee Close house fire.

This is to raise money for the Firefighters Charity and Devon Air Ambulance, in memory of those that sadly lost their lives, one of whom was a former 6th form Student.

Donations of £1 are asked to wear non uniform.

Dear Parent / Carer

SCHOOL CLOSURE IN SEVERE WEATHER AND DISRUPTION TO SCHOOL TRANSPORT

At this time of year it is timely to remind you of arrangements that will apply if severe weather forces College closure or disrupts College transport.

1.      MAKING THE DECISION TO CLOSE THE COLLEGE

The College should be able to remain open during severe weather and will ideally do so for students living within walking distance.   Only in exceptional circumstances will the College be closed.

2.      COMMUNICATING THE COLLEGE CLOSURE

Every effort will be made to give you early and clear information if we are forced to close the College.  Information will be provided through the following mediums

The College website (www.honitoncollege.devon.sch.uk)   Notification of closure will be posted on the College website by 07:30 hours at the latest.

·         Radio Devon (103.4 MHz FM)

·         Heart Radio (formerly Gemini Radio, 97-103 MHz FM)

·         Twitter (@honitoncc)

·         Parentmail

3.       COLLEGE  TRANSPORT IN SEVERE WEATHER

a.       COLLEGE REMAINS OPEN BUT TRANPORT IS DISRUPTED BY SEVERE WEATHER:

You may find that College transport has been disrupted when severe weather strikes overnight.   If your College transport has not arrived for the morning journey this may be because traffic is moving more slowly than normal in your area and it may be that transport is simply delayed.   However, if transport has not arrived after a reasonable time then you must assume that it is not operating.

If College transport is unable to bring your child to College in the morning, and you chose to bring them to College yourself, it is important to bear in mind that you should be prepared to collect them in the afternoon (if there has been no improvement in weather conditions and College transport is still not operating.)

It is best to err on the side of caution and assume that transport will not run in the afternoon if it does not operate in the morning.

b.      COLLEGE OPENS IN THE MORNING, BUT SEVERE WEATHER FORCES EARLY CLOSURE

If transport contractors advise that transport must run early due to worsening weather conditions, the College will obviously comply with this request.    Information will be available via the same mediums as stated above.   We will also endeavour to contact you personally or get your child to contact you (please ensure we have up-to-date contact telephone numbers.)   The College will check all students onto their designated transport.  If you normally collect your child we will contact you and ask that you come and pick up your child.

Students not using College transport will be released early if conditions continue to deteriorate.

Yours sincerely

Glenn Smith

Principal

Thursday February 14th 6.30 to 8.30pm is the Options Eve and this is the chance for your child to look at all of the option choices available and look at the GCSE courses on offer before making their option choices. This is not an evening where you make appointments but there is always a talk in the hall at the beginning of the evening and then there is chance to walk around the College at your leisure to see what the different subject areas have to offer in terms of options.
