Dear Parent / Carer

DETAILS REGARDING LAST DAY OF TERM DECEMBER 2012

I trust this letter finds you in festive mood.   It has been a very busy, yet productive Autumn term.  I have some important information for you which is explained below.

In line with other schools locally, the Christmas vacation will commence at 14:00 hours on Friday 21st December 2012.  College buses have been informed and the vast majority will be leaving College by approximately 14:10 hours.   Parents of children who catch Hon 8 and Hon 20 have been written to separately in order to ascertain alternative arrangements.

I would like to thank you all for your support and help this year and take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.  We look forward to seeing students back in College on Monday 7th January 2013.

Yours sincerely

Glenn Smith
Principal

HCC Sixth Form Debaters Win Debating Competition Qualifying Round

29th November: HCC’s Sixth Form Debating team beat off stiff competition from other schools across Devon, Dorset and Gloucestershire to qualify for the Regional Final of the national Debating Matters competition.

Arguing against the motion that ‘free speech should never be an absolute’, HCC beat the Farmors’ School from Gloucestershire and then went on, debating against the motion that ‘the UK should avoid a dash for gas’, to beat Sherborne Girls’ school.

Particular mention goes to LYDIA GEORGE and CONOR MURPHY who won the first debate and to SAM JOHNSON and ANDY MOTH who won the second debate. The rest of the team are Tamara Rutland, Amy Keitch and Jack Fry.

At the next round in Bristol our HCC debaters will have the chance of a place in the national final in London.

GCSE Revision Evening, Wednesday 28th November, 6.30-8.00

  • Would you like to help your son/daughter achieve their potential in their GCSE exams?
  • Are you unsure how they should be revising?
  • Would you like to confidently monitor their progress towards their goals?
  • Would you like to reduce the stress for you (and them) around exam time?

The event above should help with all these questions (and more).  We would like to invite you and your child to attend the evening here in College.  Our students face many exam challenges (whether they are in Year 10 or Year 11) and we want to be sure that they are prepared in the best way possible.  The evening will cover revision techniques and tips, give students and parents the opportunity to access our online subject resources and we’ll provide important revision materials for the students to take home with them.

The evening will start with a talk in the dining hall at 6.30

The College is remaining open at the moment, we will contact parents/carers should the need arise to let you know if the situation should change.

Please keep following the college website, the college twitter account @honitoncc Heart FM (97.0 - 103 Mhz FM) and BBC Radio Devon (103.4 Mhz FM) if weather conditions continue to deteriorate overnight.

AGM for Parent Staff Friends Association

Tues 27th November, 6.00pm

Conference Room

The Chair will be stepping down but is still keen to be involved in the life of the College. This is a crucial meeting to discuss the best way forward for this parent forum.

On Thursday 15th November, The Mayor of Honiton came to visit the ICT Studio. This was all to do with the Year 7 version of HCCTV. But these were called HCC Blast! Over the past month around 20 year 7 students have been working on producing a show in groups of 5 or 6. One group of girls (including the Mayors daughter) decided he was the person they wanted to interview along with Diddy the Bear. The girls rehearsed it over and over again to make it perfect and on the day they took control of everything from operating the cameras to helping arrange the set. They did fantastic and have set a great example of what can be achieved as a team. I very much look forward to seeing what the girls can do as they improve their techniques during their time. I would also like to say a massive thanks to Mrs Creed who has helped run HCC Blast and did some fantastic work with the girls.
