Spring Term reports will be issued to all students tomorrow (Wednesday 27th March 2013)
Keep up to date with the goings-on at Honiton Community College.
Spring Term reports will be issued to all students tomorrow (Wednesday 27th March 2013)
Year 8 have been studying African Art this term and have decorated recycled water bottles in the style of the Ndebele Tribe from South Africa.
We are trying to raise awareness of the water crisis in Africa and ask you to donate any spare pennies to support charities who provide clean fresh water supplies, and pumps to the African people.
Students are aiming to fill their bottles with loose change over the Easter Holiday and return them by the end of April. Funds raised will be divided equally between WaterAid (www.wateraid.com), and our partner school in Shashemene Ethiopia.
Look on the Honiton Community College website in May to see how much we raised.
Thank You
Miss Hichens
F1 in schools update
Team Dynamica travelled to London to compete in the F1 in schools National final last Thursday. They came up against some very experienced teams, one of which broke the World record for the fastest Bloodhound car in this competition. Despite the fact that they have improved the speed of their car by 20% in the two weeks since the regional finals, this was still not enough to win against the high quality opposition on the day.
The team have worked hard over the last year collecting sponsorship, learning how to use industry standard, state of the art CAD / CAM software and have formed some valuable links with local Businesses. They are disappointed with not returning with the prize, but have learned lots through this programme and had a thoroughly enjoyable day visiting the inspirational stalls at the London “Big Bang” fair.
Many thanks to their sponsors who have supported them with time and finance:
Goodridge, CME, Telesis, Every’s, Consortium, RCBearings, Flymoore, Westward paper sales. Proserve
The car that the boys are standing next to is a full size replica of the bloodhound car which is bidding to take the world land speed record.
The Easter Vacation will commence at 14:00 hours on Thursday 28th March 2013.
College buses have been informed and the vast majority will be leaving by approximately 14:00 hours.
Parents of children who catch Hon 8 and Hon 20 have been written to separately in order to ascertain alternative arrangements.
Once again, your continued support has been invaluable and i wish you all a Happy Easter. I look forward to seeing students back in college on Monday April 15th 2013.
Yours Sincerely
Glenn Smith
Students at Honiton Community College have been getting involved International Pi Day
Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “?”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more digits.
See how some of our students did!
Application and deposits need to be at the student office by Thursday 28th March
Do you fancy a challenge?
