Year 5

Tours of the College  Monday 10th June – Thursday 20th June 2013 (not Tuesday 11th June)

Starting at 9.15am

We understand that as your child watches their Year 6 friends get ready to ‘move-up’ to Secondary school you will want to start planning their next step.  We are opening the College doors during the working day to Year 5 pupils and their parents/carers.

Tours take approximately one hour.  Members of the College Leadership Team will conduct the tours and we will be happy to answer any questions. Please contact us by phone or email to book a place via Sarah Dunn on Reception.

When we offered this opportunity to Year 6 parents last year the feedback was extremely positive so we hope that you will take this opportunity to see the College in action. If you want to stay up-to-date with events, practical information and success at the College please visit our website –www.honitoncollege.devon.sch.co.uk

FAQs about Honiton Community College

Is it a good school?

Ofsted 2011: “Students make an outstanding contribution to the school and wider community”; and the “strong leadership of the Principal and senior staff is supported by the governing body”.

For the second year running the performance of our GCSE students has placed us amongst the top 25% of Schools and Colleges in the country.  Honiton continues to go from strength to strength; our success is testament to the hard work and commitment of our governors and staff, supported by the stronger links between parents and the College.

  • 53% of the Year group achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics (80% achieved 5 or more, A*-C)

The A*-C figure has risen dramatically over the last few years but we will not become complacent for one second.  The best schools and their staff are never satisfied and constantly motivate students and teachers alike to build on previous accomplishments. Next year we are aiming to achieve 60% A*-C including English and Maths.

Do students enjoy it?

PASS (Pupil Attitude to Self and School) survey feedback

Of the nine factors the students ‘Response to the Curriculum’ compares most positively (63.7 percentile) with schools nationally – this reflects their motivation to undertake and complete tasks in our varied curriculum. For all of the following factors the college received 70% or more percentage maximum score: feelings about school, perceived learning capability, preparedness for learning, attitudes to teachers, general work ethic and attitudes to attendance. Overall the survey shows an improvement in students’ attitudes this year and a growing confidence in their ability to succeed.

What do Parents think of the college?

These are the results of a survey made available to parents at the college  during a Parents Evening in December 2012.
