Cashless Catering
In June the College intends to introduce a cashless catering system using a biometric system to pay for food purchased in the College canteen.
What does the system achieve?
- speeds up the service and reduces queues by removing cash from the canteen
- reduces the risk of loss or theft of cash, and therefore bullying associated with cash
- allows parents greater control to ensure their child only spends their money on College lunches
- improves convenience for parents by allowing payment over the internet thus avoiding the need to find cash each day
- simplifies the administration of free school meals
- enables all children to pay using the same method thus ensuring anonymity for children claiming Free School Meals
Instead of paying cash at the till the student accesses their account by placing their finger on a reader which brings up their photo and account balance on the cashier’s screen. The cashier uses the touch screen to ring through the meal and the cost is deducted from the student’s account.
