Art and Design - Key Stage 3
Students will develop skills in order to:
- Explore and develop ideas
- Investigate and make art, craft and design
- Evaluate and develop their work
- Make progress, demonstrating knowledge and understanding
Key Stage 3 Art and Design provides a solid foundation for GCSE Art and Design. It also develops many of the skill required in independent learning and creative problem solving. The content facilitates aspects of social and emotional learning.
Year 7
Art and Artists
Primarily a unit of work that looks at particular art movements or styles. E.g. Surrealism, Cubism
Narrative Art
Narrative Art is investigated as a genre. Outcomes will be developed from looking at various contextual starting points, such as comic strips and Medieval art.
Environment
Various aspects are used to widen the students’ experience and awareness of the built and natural environment. E.g. Gargoyles, Street Art or Landscape.
Year 8
Expressionism
An emotional response is developed in response to the work of Expressionistic Art. Different materials and techniques will be explored through this theme.
Still Life
Different approaches to the genre will be examined and analysed through a variety of art making activities. E.g. Collage, Painting, Printing.
Other Cultures
Looking at the art from other times and places. Personal responses will be developed from different cultural starting points. E.g. African Art.
