Sixth Form

"Developing Creativity"

We encourage students' creativity and imagination through visual, tactile and sensory experiences. In the early stages of Art, Design and
Photography, each student will learn practical, technical and critical skills to communicate their ideas, feelings and meanings through their work.

PHOTOGRAPHY – LENS AND LIGHT-BASED MEDIA

Photography offers opportunities to work with both traditional and digital media. It includes film and video and it is possible to combine both stills
and moving images in developing creative ideas. Students are expected to respond to given briefs or themes, they may go out on location
shoots and from this, select and manipulate images to develop and communicate their ideas.

Requirements - Grade A*-C at GCSE

This course is based upon practical work, which will develop a working knowledge of materials, practices and technology. It will also enable
students to interpret and convey their knowledge , feelings and ideas in creative and imaginative ways. At A Level (Year 2) there is a compulsory
written element of 1000-300 words. Each student decides on their own theme or topic, however, it must relate to, and inform their coursework.
Visits and working with artists also contribute to the areas of study. You will be expected to work for long periods of time outside of the studio on
your own work.

Fine Art

Students who choose to study Fine Art will be working with a range of  2D and 3D media to develop their visual skills in drawing, painting,
printmaking and sculpture. They may wish to work in alternative media, which includes contemporary approaches such as installation,
land art and digital technology for example, using moving images. Students will be expected to generate and develop ideas, selecting
the most appropriate media and techniques to communicate their ideas effectively.

Requirements - Grade A*-C at GCSE

"We have a fantastic curriculum that provides a solid foundation for a wide range of artistic career paths. From the early stages, students will
be encouraged to investigate art and develop their understanding." - Nick Dormand - Head of Art, Design & Photography.
