The college is delighted to announce that it has been successful in its bid for £1.61M of grant funding from the government. The funding will be used to build a new Technology and Modern Foreign Languages block. The work is due to be completed by early in the spring term and only when the new building is complete and everyone has moved across will the old Technology and MFL block then be demolished.
This is phase 1 of a multi-phase development that will see the college achieve its strategic long term campus plan. Each phase whilst modular in design will complement the previous building phase and replace dilapidated, out-dated facilities with state of the art classrooms and learning areas.
Below are some statements from the Director of Finance, Principal and the Chair of Governors.
Director of Finance statement
It is with great pride that I can announce that Honiton Community College has been successful in its bid for £1.61M of grant funding from the Government. The funding will be used to build a new Technology and Modern Foreign Languages block to replace the current dilapidated 1930’s building. The new building will greatly improve the learning environment with state of the art equipment and resources which will optimise and enhance our students’ learning experience. I am excited that the College can now replace an outdated, uneconomical, undersized and ecologically unsound building with a brand new, fit for purpose facility that will represent the future of Honiton Community College.
Principal – Glenn Smith
I am elated at the news that we have secured the funding to create a fantastic learning environment for our students. Considering the amazingly stiff competition for the limited government funds available, this affirms the strength of the talent and ability within in the Leadership and Governance of the college. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mr Gary Wills, Director of Finance, for coordinating the bid and being the driving force behind our successful campaign for funds.
Chair of Governors – Mrs Lynda Price
“We are delighted to have been awarded this funding, especially against stiff competition. Modern purpose built surroundings aid students’ learning of these important subjects. Honiton Community College students deserve the best we can provide.”
Thomas Hembrow - Chair of Student Council
As chairperson of the college council I personally feel the new build is amazing. The old buildings are very dated and have not got a very nice working environment. Whereas the new build will provide up to date facilities giving us a clean and airey environment. All that I feel is needed now is a new gym facility which we hope will not be to far into the future.
Below is an aerial view of the college, showing where the new build will be and which part will be demolished.
